Local Government Graduate Programme
I have always had a keen interest in Local Government and took the opportunity as part of my Master’s Thesis to focus on Workforce Planning in the Local Government Sector. My graduate placement is with the HR department of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.
This is a structured two-year programme run in conjunction with the Local Government Management Agency. The variety of a role within Local Authorities was the main attraction to me. The placement has afforded me immediate access to experienced HR professionals and a level of responsibility which is both encouraging and challenging.
I am learning the fundamental operations of a large HR department as well as the supporting IT systems while also assisting with the development of a corporate HR strategy. The programme is an ideal opportunity to get a better understanding of the HR issues touched upon as part of my course.
