Having recently joined publicjobs.ie as an ICT Specialist, Darragh tell us about his role and the opportunities for training that have been available to him, in his short time since joining the Infrastructure team.

Tell us a little bit about your role?

My role is very diverse. It ranges from implementing remote access security rules on the server to allow a safe environment for staff to keep working from home, right down to helping users reset their passwords after their well-deserved holidays.

What opportunities has this role provided for you?

I’ve only been in this role for a short period of time, however my previous experience has given me the opportunity to be at the forefront of various ongoing IT projects including IT security, Office 365 migration and remote workspace upgrades. Since the beginning, I’ve had a huge amount of help and support from the rest of the IT team. I have also been given the opportunity to attend various online seminars as well as inhouse training, and I have even signed up for Microsoft’s certification training starting next month..

What were your reasons for applying for an ICT role in the public sector?

In my previous role in the private sector, I felt that I had learned all that I could in the 6 years I was there. I felt there was no room for growth as there was a smaller number of staff. Here at publicjobs.ie, I feel like the sky is the limit. If I keep taking all the opportunities as they present themselves and keep applying myself to the role to the best of my abilities, I will progress in my career.

Would you recommend a career in the public sector?

Yes, definitely. Between the room for growth, the opportunities and the amazing people I have had the pleasure to work with, I have nothing but praise for the way the sector is run.
