International Migrants Day is marked on the 18th of December each year, which recognises and celebrates the contribution that migrants make around the world. Research has shown that diverse societies, including workforces, enrich opportunities for development and innovation, and support social cohesion in inclusive societies. This year’s theme is ‘Reimagining Human Mobility’ which acknowledges the positive societal impact that migrants have made, particularly over this past year in the fight against Covid-19, when their knowledge and skills have been evident in their work in areas including health, transportation and food services. We all have a collective responsibility to create a safer, inclusive and more resilient world.
DAccording to the WHO World Report on Disability this culminates to around 15% of the world’s population.
The theme for this years International Day of People with Disabilities is ‘Not All Disabilities are Visible’, which aims to spread awareness about disabilities that are not always apparent, such as mental illness, chronic pain or fatigue, sight or hearing impairments, diabetes, brain injuries, neurological disorders, learning differences and cognitive dysfunctions, among others.
World Refugee Day falls on the 20th of June every year to raise awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world. The theme for this year is ‘Every Action Counts’, which aims to remind us all that everyone, including refugees, can contribute to society to create a more just, inclusive, and equal world.

The Civil Service Women’s Network is a newly formed, voluntary, cross-civil service network with a mission to connect women and supporters of women, as empowered contributors to the Irish Civil Service.
Applications are currently open to graduates with a disability for six months, paid, mentored work placements in a number of Departments within the Civil Service. These are based nationwide as part of the Willing Able Mentoring (WAM) Programme. This programme is open to graduates with a disability from all disciplines and the closing date to apply is 12pm, Wednesday, the 4th of March 2020.
This is a work placement programme which aims to promote access to the labour market for graduates with disabilities and build the capacity of employers to integrate disability into the mainstream workplace. Participating employers (WAM Leaders) collaborate with WAM to offer mentored, paid, work placements for graduates with disabilities. This partnership brings graduates with disabilities and employers together so that both can benefit from each other - ensuring genuine learning opportunities for all.

The first Public Service-wide Innovation Week will take place from 9-13th December this year and all Public Service Organisations have been asked to place a concentrated focus on innovation within their organisations for that week.
The main event during Innovation Week is the Innovation Conference on 10th December in The Printworks, Dublin Castle. In the morning, there will be an exciting programme of speakers followed by ‘Innovation Faster Classes’ in the afternoon.
Today the Public Appointments Service is marking International Day of People With Disabilities (IDPWD). Since 1992, IDPWD has been observed every December 3rd by a range of organisations around the world.

The Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund is a €500 million fund which will run under Project Ireland 2040. This initiative is run by the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation with support from Enterprise Ireland.
