Administrative Officer

Having studied Politics and International Relations, applying for the Civil Service made a lot of sense. That said, I didn’t think I’d end up doing something half as interesting as working in the Brexit Unit of the Department of Finance.

The Civil Service is smaller than I imagined, so as one of a team of four, and being only five levels away from the minister means you’re very close to where the decisions are being made, and have quite a bit of autonomy when it comes to how you want to carry out your duties. It really is up to you to find out what the public interest is, and how best to achieve that.

Outside of my specific role, the Civil Service provides fantastic opportunities in relation to mobility, promotion opportunities, career breaks, and other benefits.
