Interview Advice: Understanding the New Capability Framework

 New Capability Framework

What are Capability-Based Interviews?

Capability-based interviews typically required candidates to give examples and evidence of their capability, suitability and readiness for the role.

This new recruitment framework aims to gather insight into the whole person. This is done through demonstrating capabilities by exploring:

  • Experience, Examples and Behaviours
  • Skills, Strengths and Knowledge
  • Values, Motivation and Interests

How Should you Prepare for Capability-Based Interviews?

To prepare yourself for your interview, you should review the relevant documents such as the Capability Framework and the Candidate Information Booklet.

You should also reflect on your career and education and consider which experiences and key achievements are best suited to demonstrate your capability in different areas.

Recruiters want you to succeed. So, show the best parts of yourself! Consider your skills, strengths and knowledge. Ask yourself, how do you develop and utilise these and what value can you add with your specific skillset/strengths/knowledge?

Also consider what values and motivations drive you to perform, reflect on your interests and think about what makes you excited about work!

If you have limited direct experience in an area, don’t panic! Reflect on any transferable skills that could be used to demonstrate your capability in that area.

You should also prepare and think of answers that are relevant to the job description and capabilities.
